The aim of the deep is to protect the open side deep space and to contain offensive flow if the cup is broken.

When the cup is in control, the deep’s first priority is to stop open side deep throws while maintaining appropriate positioning to make a play on any deep throws that go up. When the cup is in control, the deep’s second priority is to talk to the wings and let them know where the threats are.
