Short Deep A cup zone is most effective in windy conditions as it makes throws over the cup less viable. To adapt the zone to more still conditions, the alley can turn into a short deep to protect throws going over the cup. This means the cup now consists of the mark, break and centre, i.e 3 players, with the short deep, open wing and break wing forming a larger “cup” which acts as a secondary barrier to disc movement.
