Defending Deep Throws: Using game context to play better deep defence by Brummie

Lots of teams at the 2025 USA National Championships relied heavily on their deep game, and some games featured a lot of hucks. While always enjoyable for the spectator, I felt there was lots of areas for improvement in deep defence. Using game context allows defenders to proactively take better positions and prevent hucking opportunities from arising.

Playing good defence against deep cutters isn’t all about being tall and fast. A lot of it comes down to recognising situations which set up ideal hucking opportunities, and proactively positioning yourself in such a way as to give yourself an advantage.
