Throwing to a stationary target in ultimate is extremely rare. Most throws will be aiming for receivers who are cutting at pace, so you should throw into space for them to run on to. We call this "leading the receiver".

One frequent mistake seen by beginners is that their throws are aimed directly at the position their intended receiver is in, rather than aiming for the position that the receiver will have according to their current speed and trajectory.
