The aim of the open side wing is to protect the space on the open sideline and to contain offensive flow if the cup is broken.

When the cup is in control, the open side wing’s priority is to stop mid-range throws going down the line past the alley. If the cup gets broken, the open side wing’s priority is to contain the most dangerous middle-field or open side offensive threat until the cup can regain control.
